The county context of the coast region is highlighted as follows:
Mombasa: threats from political supremacy battles; juvenile gangs; MRC cells; ethnicity and intolerance; historical injustice.
Kilifi: MRC; Supremacy battles
Lamu: Interreligious conflicts; historical injustice; insurgency threats
Tana River: Ethnic tension; resource based conflicts
Kwale: VE recruitment cells; ethnicity and intolerance.
Taita Taveta: No threats at the moment but monitoring the situation through a one long-time partner – Mazido International.
It is our hope to develop a Political Economy Analysis report that should be able to capture issues that affect youth in the region and provide recommendations to inform interventions. More to that, the ECCES program shall collaborate with Local Development Organizations to support activities while focusing on innovative ways to support recurring youth issues. This can be through investment on skills development providing.
