Capacity Building: PROACT

The MERL Training workshop for Midrift Hurinen and CEF- Nakuru on Conflict and CVE was held by Act Change Transform on the 20th and 21st  July 2021 at Hotel Waterbuck (Nakuru)

The two-day training brought together 22 participants on the first day and 26 participants on the second day from the County Engagement Forum and Midrift Hurinet. The forum was aimed at enhancing police accountability. The two-day draining was pegged on three objectives: (i) Enhancing the capacity of the partners in the development of data collection tools and analysis of data on the Kobo collect platform. (ii)Use of Most Significant Change techniques in reporting (iii)Enhancing the capacity of the partners in explaining the logic models, the concept of Theory of change and its importance in programming. (iv) Enhancing the capacity of the partners in understanding the stages in developing a Theory of Change

The anticipated outcome was that there will be enhanced partner capacity in development of data collection tools using the Kobo collect platform and be able to design the programmatic pathways to change – that includes all possible strategies and pre-conditions, short term, medium term and long term outcomes of a program.

The learning expectations as shared by the participants was to: Understand the data collection techniques, understand how to analyses Likert scale data, summarize change hypothesis, project plans and ways of measuring achievement, Summarizes M&E data to be collected, method, frequency and responsibility among others and Understand how to develop outcome based reports.

During the training the participants noted that a majority were not well conversant with the online monitoring and evaluation tools. Some cited that their reporting was rigid on the fact that they did not collect quantitative data to measure the change in the Knowledge, Attitude and Practices of the target populations pre and post activities.

At the end of the training, feedback from the participants highlighted that their understanding of the design of the theory of change for adoptive programming, design of data collection tool, qualitative and quantitative data collection as well as analysis and reporting was quite enhanced

At the end of the training the implementing partner- Midrift Hurinet agreed to develop standardized data collection tools that would be used across the PROACT program in collaboration with the other implementing partners in the other project sites; Kwale and Isiolo.

We look forward to following up on commitments made by the partners to share knowledge and cross learn with other implementing partners.
