Act! Announces new chief executive officer

 

The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Tom Were as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective 01 August 2018. Tom takes over as CEO from Ms. Anne Nyabera who has transitioned from the organization after leading it through a period of tremendous growth for the last three years and seven months.

An accomplished senior management executive, Tom brings a wealth of experience spanning over 20 years in leadership positions in Business Development, Resource Development, and Economic Development as well as in Environment, Livelihoods and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources programming.

Speaking during his presentation to the Act! Staff and Board of Directors by the Chair of Act! Board, Tom expressed his delight for the new appointment saying he is looking forward to a fruitful partnership with Act! partners as well as exploring more diverse areas for collaboration and development.

“I am humbled by this opportunity to build on Act!’s many years tradition in capacity development and grants management in Kenya. I fondly anticipate expanding our outreach, and increasing our community support in line with the organization’s strategic plan”, said Tom.

Prior to his appointment, Tom served as Senior Institutional and Organizational Advisor at Strategic Connections Limited Kenya. He also served as the National Director at SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya, as well as a Program Director at Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF) and as the Head of Business Development at Kenya Gatsyby Trust.

Speaking during the same event, the outgoing CEO Ms. Anne Nyabera, expressed her gratitude to the Act! Board of Directors and Staff for the support they have accorded her during her tenure as the CEO. She also congratulated her successor and stated that she was confident he will lead the organization to achieve even greater impact and deepen its relationships with its stakeholders.

The Chair of Act! Board of Directors Mr. Francis Aywa, thanked Anne for her service to the organization and reiterated his confidence in Tom saying that the Board had found a leader with passion for serving others and commitment to developing services that are tailored to community needs.

“Tom embodies Act!’s core values and has a consistent track record of delivering financial growth and organization health during his past career in the development sector. We believe he will drive Act! to even greater heights just like his predecessor did”, said Aywa
