Reformed Elections for Enhanced Democracy and Inclusion Programme – (REDI)

Program Description

Background/Introduction: Kenya has made significant democratic gains since the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution and with the 2013 General Election which marked the first national poll conducted under the new constitutional framework.

Despite the gains, recent years have seen democratic lapse, declining public trust in key institutions, and shrinking civic space which have contributed to critical challenges that the Programmes seeks to address:
• Declining Trust in Democratic Institutions
• Declining Voter Participation
• Exclusion of Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
• Electoral Violence and Misinformation
• Slow Implementation of Electoral Reforms

Project Approach

Technical Approach: REDI adopts a multi-stakeholder, systems-strengthening, and citizen-centred approach, combining institutional support with grassroots civic engagement. Key elements of the technical approach include:
1. Electoral Cycle Approach
2. Institutional Strengthening
3. Conflict-Sensitive Programming (Integrating EWER Systems)
4. Civic and Voter Education
5. Collaboration and Network Building
6. Evidence and Monitoring-Based Interventions
Delivery Approach: REDI will be delivered through sub-grants to civil society organizations (CSOs) under two categories – National-level partners (Outcome 2&4) and County-based partners (Outcome 1&3).

Geographic Focus

The Programme is expected to cover at least 24 Counties. The county selection process is currently ongoing based on a participatory approach.
