Kenya Community Engagement and Resilience Programme – (KCERP)

Program Description

This is a community-driven initiative designed to strengthen the prevention of violent extremism by building the capacity of local civil society actors and anchoring prevention efforts at county level.

The Programme is Implemented by Act Change Transform (Act!) and the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) as co-recipients, with funding from the European Union, the programme shifts greater responsibility and resources to grassroots organisations, particularly community-based organisations.

Key Objectives / Focus Areas

To strengthen the resilience of communities – women and men – in all their diversity at risk of suffering from (or being engaged in) violent extremism.

Project Approach

Under KCERP, Act Change Transform (Act!) identifies and provides small grants to community-level and grassroots initiatives, including community-based organisations, working on the prevention of violent extremism. The programme engages at least 40 local organisations, combining financial support with structured capacity strengthening so that trusted, locally rooted actors can translate national prevention strategies into practical, context-specific action within their communities.

Geographic Focus

These counties are;
Lamu, Tana River, Mandera, Marsabit and Wajir Counties.

Expected Outcomes / Impact

• Increased awareness of women, youth and the community on PVE – including human rights and gender (offline and online)
• Improved agency for community leaders, especially youth and women, on driving P/CVE, including by having a more positive relationship with local authorities/law enforcement;
• Increased socio-economic resilience for women and youth (especially disengaged youth) against violent extremism through increased sustainable income.
