Today, the Senate of the Parliament of Kenya, with the support of the Kenya Devolution Programme (KDP) – Timiza Ugatuzi funded by UK in Kenya, officially launched the Impeachment Digest and Impeachment Manual—two essential knowledge products designed to enhance transparency and due process in the impeachment of County Governors and Deputy Governors. The launch was officiated by the Speaker of the Senate, Rt. Hon. Amason Kingi, EGH.
The newly launched Impeachment Manual serves as a practical, easy-to-use reference for Members of County Assemblies (MCAs), Senators, and members of the public seeking to understand the impeachment process. Meanwhile, the Impeachment Digest consolidates years of jurisprudence and legislative experience, offering an in-depth analysis of past impeachment proceedings, key Senate rulings, and court decisions.
The launch of these two knowledge products marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s devolution journey, strengthening the principles of transparency, accountability, and good governance. As impeachment remains a critical oversight tool under Article 181 of the Constitution, these resources empower both lawmakers and citizens to engage meaningfully in governance processes.
