The Kenya Devolution Programme (KDP) – Timiza Ugatuzi, funded by the British High Commission, supported the IGRTC -Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee in convening a pivotal Multi-Stakeholder Forum. This forum laid the groundwork for the upcoming 11th National & County Government Coordinating Summit (The Summit).
The Summit, established under Section 7 of the Intergovernmental Relations Act, 2012, is the apex body for intergovernmental relations in Kenya. The Summit is chaired by the President or, in their absence, the Deputy President, while the Chairperson of the Council of Governors-Kenya (COG) serves as the vice-chairperson. Its members include all 47 county governors to deliberate on critical national and county governance issues by fostering collaboration and consultation between national and county governments.
As the Secretariat to the Summit, the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) plays a pivotal role in promoting consultation and collaboration between the national and county governments by managing the operations of the Summit and fostering coordination between both levels of government.
This first-of-its-kind forum created a platform for National and County stakeholders to collaborate on policy priorities, ensuring meaningful dialogue and coordinated efforts for improved service delivery. The initiative marks a significant step in strengthening Kenya’s devolution and fostering effective intergovernmental relations.
